| We can beat the clock if we unite! |
If you were born between 1946 and 1964, you are a baby boomer like me. There are 76 million of us in the United States today. You may already be retired, in process or planning retirement. Regardless of your status, you are likely as shaken as I am with the current state of life in a pandemic. This unexpected threat is hitting us boomers hard physically, emotionally and financially.
As Boomers we've already survived two other major world events that hit us hard -- the 2008 stock market downturn and 9/11 terrorist attacks. Both of these were devastating to our physical, emotional and financial security. We learned from those set backs and recovered with resilience, hard work, wit and each other. Unlike the Millennial's, Gen X's, and future generations, we don't have much time to recover. The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed our financial savings, tangible resources and retirement plan. This sounds like we're in a helpless situation, but we've never looked at life's challenges that way. Baby Boomers are recognized as resourceful, determined and competitive people who believe the secret to surviving is each other. As the largest generation, we have learned to leverage other boomers who have already figured out what we are facing today. At least one of the 76 million of us has the answer already. The future looks different than we planned for our retirements but bright as we unite once again to overcome the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Call to action baby boomers: We can beat the clock if we unite!
This is the place where you can share your challenges, questions, fears as well as your expertise, ideas, suggestions and support to other baby boomers who are shaken, struggling and may even feel helpless. The vision is for this to be a dynamic place where boomers can share and seek feedback from other boomers. If you are like me, you are probably stay at home (93% of Americans are for the first time in our history) and are feeling like it is a lonely place to be. We all have time like no other time before in our lives to unite and make a difference. We can use our stay at home time to help each other with the many challenges, questions, and uncertainty that looms as baby boomers in a pandemic.
